Congrats to Taylor and all the other women making the list!
In a recent list of top earners in music, compiled by Billboard, Taylor Swift earned the top spot pulling in an income of $35,719,902, beating out U2, Kenny Chesney, Lady Gaga and more. Taylor’s financial achievements are largely due to the overwhelming success of the Speak Now World Tour, which continues in Australia and New Zealand this month, and incredible sales of her Speak Now album.
Here’s what Billboard had to say about her:
“After wrapping the final leg of her Fearless tour, Taylor Swift’s blockbuster success two years ago left music industry observers wondering what she could possibly do for an encore. The pop-country superstar answered them with her smash Speak Now album and accompanying tour, which jetted through Asia and Europe in addition to making its way across North America. Grossing $88.5 million in the U.S. alone, the tour netted Swift a remarkable $29.8 million. Honored as Billboard’s Woman of the Year in December, she racked up U.S. album sales of 1.8 million units last year-led by booming business for late 2010’s Speak Now, which sold 967,000 units and digital single track sales of 7.8 million. Songwriting royalties were another highly beneficial source of income, given that Swift wrote all 14 Speak Now tunes herself.”
The top 10 in order of earnings include:
- Taylor Swift – $35.7 million
- U2 – $31.2 million
- Kenny Chesney – $29.8 million
- Lady Gaga – $25.4 million
- Lil Wayne – $23.2 million
- Sade – $16.4 million
- Bon Jovi – $19.8 million
- Celine Dion – $14.3 million
- Jason Aldean – $13.4 million
- Adele – $13.1 million
Does it surprise anyone that Taylor’s 89-show Speak Now World Tour is among the highest grossing tours of 2011? The Speak Now World Tour came in 5th place pulling in a mind-blowing $97 million this year, according to MTV News. She beat out fellow modern acts such as Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga, as well as living legends, the Eagles and Journey.
Accomplishments like this are well-deserved considering the amount of effort Taylor puts into every little detail of the tour, including making every individual show unique and having a variety of guest performers come out to surprise the audience in several cities.
